4-S stands for “Search and destroy” mosquito-breeding sites, employ “Self-protection measures” (i.e. wearing long pants and long sleeved shirts, and daily use of mosquito repellent), “Seek early consultation”, and “Support fogging/spraying” only in hotspot areas where increase in cases is registered for two consecutive weeks to prevent an impending outbreak.

The campaign aims to ensure that the students have a pleasant and healthy learning environment for Healthy Pilipinas.

As of August 1, 2022, from January 01 to July 30, 2022, there were 8, 279 dengue cases recorded in the region; 2, 523 are from Laguna Province, Rizal has 1, 823 cases, Quezon has 1, 377 , Cavite has 1, 308, Batangas 1, 150 and Lucena City with 98. Majority of the cases are male with the age range from 1 to 60 years old.

"We need to intensify our anti-dengue campaign to prevent an impending outbreak. We must take actions in eliminating mosquito breeding sites, maintaining cleanliness, and making our environment free from any diseases," DOH CALABARZON Regional Director Ariel I. Valencia said during the launching of 'Balik Eskwela Balik sigla sa Henerasyong Healthy' held at Kanlurang Mayao, Lucena City on August 1, 2022.

Also, part of the program is the provision of "Balik Sigla, Balik Eskwela Healthy School Clinic kit," including a First Aid Kit, Weighing Scale, BP Apparatus, Thermo Scanner, Nebulizer, and Pulse Oximeter.

Among the officials who were present were: Lucena City Mayor Mark Advincula, Philippine Pediatric Society-Southern Tagalog, Chapter President, Dr. Lizette Gutierrez-Pontanilla; and Barangay Officials of Lucena City and School Officials of Kanlurang Mayao Elementary School.

Aside from the Dengue awareness campaign, the program also anchors the seven (7) healthy habits: Move more, eat right; Be clean, Live sustainably; Get vaccinated, don't smoke; Lessen alcohol, say no to drugs; Care for yourself, Care for others; Practice safe sex; Do no harm, Put safety first. Its purpose is to shape children as they grow up to have healthy habits.

As the lead agency in Public Health, the DOH campaign focuses on all Filipinos to raise awareness, improve health knowledge, and translate knowledge into healthy behaviors.

DOH and DEPED share the responsibility of creating healthy mindsets and lifestyles under the Universal Health Care Law (UHC); this helps implement health programs, projects, and activities against the spread of infectious diseases and the increase in cases of non-communicable diseases.

"With the opening of face-to-face classes, the DOH CHD Calabarzon aligns its initiatives to ensure that students under the K to 12 curricula have the potential to acquire knowledge, skills, and values critical to improving health literacy and behaviors in their formative years," Valencia added.

"The DOH-Center for Health Development-CaLaBaRZon ramps up its campaign towards a safe, conducive, and healthy learning environment for the upcoming face-to-face classes towards a health literate generation and a Healthy Pilipinas," Valencia concluded.
