The Department of Health- Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) CaLaBaRZon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) through its Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Health (RDRRMH) joined the First Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) yesterday, March 09, 2023.
The said drill aims to promote earthquake preparedness toward community resilience and strengthening partnership at all levels. Likewise, to reinvigorate employees on what to do when earthquakes occur.
The drill highlighted the standard operating procedures for evacuation, first aid for injuries, burn wounds, muscles, skeletal injuries, and other health-related injuries.
Employees participated in the drill; Duck down to the floor, take Cover under a sturdy table or desk, hold onto it, and prepare to move with it. Hold the position until the ground stops shaking and moving is safe (DUCK, COVER, and HOLD). It also reminds the employees to avoid windows, hanging objects, mirrors, or other objects posing a fall risk.
“Napakahalaga ng ganitong earthquake drill dahil napaghahandaan natin kung paano iligtas ang ating mga sarili sakaling tamaan tayo ng tinatawag na THE BIG ONE.. lalo na at malapit tayo sa faut line.. Ngayon itinuro sa atin ang evacuation area, gayundin ang mga emergency preparedness kit na kakailanganin natin sa oras na tayo ay makaranas ng lindol. It is better to be prepared and well-equipped in case a disaster strikes,” CHD CaLaBaRZon Regional Director, Ariel I. Valencia said.
NSED is an opportune time to test the efficiency and usefulness of the preparedness, response, and recovery plans, systems, and policies of the local government units, offices, and schools; to evaluate the effectiveness of contingency plan; to test the coordination and communication mechanism during response operation; and to understand the command and control mechanism in emergency and disaster operation.
