Today (Monday), February 27, 2023, DOH CHD CaLaBaRZon successfully launched the campaign: Health-Iskwela pag ProtektoDOH laban sa Dengue! "Eskwelahang Ligtas, sa Dengue Makakaiwas” held at Rosario Ocampo Elementary School (ROES), Taytay Rizal. The said launch featured the School-based Dengue Awareness Campaign, particularly the 4S Strategy, and the ceremonial installation of Olyset Nets in the school windows
“Nakipagtulungan ang Kagawaran ng Kalusugan sa Kagawaran ng Edukasyon, pribadong sektor at lokal na pamahalaan ng Taytay, Rizal upang paigtingin pa ang mga programa laban sa Dengue at iba pang infectious diseases. Sa paglunsad ng kampanyang “Health-Iskwela pag ProtektoDOH laban sa Dengue!” Eskwelahang Ligtas, sa Dengue Makakaiwas, ang mga magulang, mag aaral, at ang mga guro ay magkakaroon ng wastong kaalaman at karagdagang proteksyon laban sa dengue at iba pang mga sakit na katulad nito,” said CHD CaLaBaRZon Director Ariel I. Valencia.
74 pieces of OLYSET Nets, 24 pcs of Spray Can, 480 sachets of Bistar, 35 IEC materials (Tarpaulin), 60 sachets of Oresol, and 250 pcs of Dengue NS1 Antigen test kits were turned over to ROES, and 25 other schools in Taytay, Rizal.
"Itong programang ito ay nagnanais na tulungan kayo, Unang una ay paigtingin ang preventive interventions na nakapaloob rito. Hangad nating lahat ang tuluyang pagpuksa sa dengue at sana ay unti unti natin itong ma aksyunan in the coming months and years. Ang kalinisan ay nagsisimula sa sariling bakuran. Kaya huwag kalimutan ang 4S: Search and Destroy Mosquito breeding Sites, Seek early consultation, Support fogging/spraying to prevent impending outbreak," he added.
Since last year, the DOH-CaLaBaRZon has been distributing anti-dengue and other vector control supplies to schools, including Gov. D.M. Camerino Integrated School; Imus Pilot Elementary School; Buhay na Tubig Elementary School in Imus Cavite and Kanlurang Mayao Elementary School in Lucena City, in collaboration with DepEd.
“We have already started the distribution of these anti-dengue and vector-borne supplies to various schools in CaLaBarZon, and will continue to do so in other areas,” Valencia concluded.
The mosquito nets will abet the preventive and vector-control measures against the threat of the dengue virus, wherein school-age children are victims of this dreaded disease. School windows installed with OLYSET nets: a long-lasting insecticidal net immediately kills mosquitoes once it touches the net. It lasts four to five years and must not be rinsed to retain effectiveness.
Present in the turnover and installation of the anti-dengue supplies insecticide-treated nets were Taytay, DOH CHD CaLaBaRZon Regional Director Ariel I. Valencia, Taytay, Rizal Mayor Allan Martine S. De Leon, Rizal Provincial Health Team Leader (PHTL) Dr. Gerardo Mejorada, Infectious Disease Control (IDC) Cluster Head Dr. Eva Marie Torio, Vector Borne Disease Prevention Unit Head, Mr. Jomell Mojica, Schools Division Superintendent Ms. Susan DL. Oribiana, ROES School Principal Ms. Melanie Mesa, along with the Principals of the 25 participating schools in Taytay, Rizal.
Based on the Regional Epidemiology & Surveillance Unit (RESU) data, there were 1,697 reported cases of dengue in CALABARZON from January 1 to February 18, 2023, 52% higher than last year with 1,119 cases. Most cases are from the Province of Cavite with 536, followed by Laguna with 373; Rizal with 366; Quezon with 246; Batangas with 154; and Lucena with 22 cases.
