Press Release/18 October 2018

DOH-CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo together with officials of the local government unit of Lumban led the groundbreaking ceremony for the establishment of a new two-story Rural Health Unit (RHU) Building to be located at Barangay Lewin in Lumban, Laguna on Saturday, October 13, 2018.
“This new RHU will replaced the old health center which have been in service for almost 3 decades without support coming from the regional office. It was only recently that we received a request from the LGU for a new RHU building to upgrade the existing one,” Director Janairo narrated during the groundbreaking program.
“With the passage of the Universal Health Care Law, we can now upgrade more government-owned and operated hospitals and health facilities to accommodate the growing number of patients and attend to all types of emergencies,” he emphasized.
According to Janairo, residents of a community received almost all their medical care from government health facilities because it is free. “This is the reason why it should not be under-manned and under-resourced. They should always meet the demands of their patients from consultation to treatment.”
The regional office has initially turned-over 5 million pesos for the immediate construction of the health facility which is estimated to cost about Php 15 million for the completion of the infrastructure.
Janairo assured residents that the regional office will allocate more funds including resources for the equipment needed to modernize and improve health care services for the residents.

The construction and improvement of Lumban RHU is implemented through the DOH-HFEP with the main goal of improving the delivery of basic, essential and as well as specialized health services. The facilities will be upgraded to make them more responsive to the “need” of the community, to provide Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) and Comprehensive Emergency and Newborn Care (CEmONC) services to the population, and to strengthen the health service delivery network.
