Press Release/16 October 2018
To underline and give recognition to their contribution to society, DOH-CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) provided medical and dental mission for the elderly held at the Lumban Auditorium in Laguna on Saturday, October 13, 2018.

“Through this activity, we want to express gratitude to our seniors for their lifelong dedication and commitment in serving the society. The fact that you now live longer today than ever is already considered a big success because this means you are in good health and can still serve as an important part of the community,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated in his message as guest speaker of the event.
“It does not mean that if we are already senior citizens, we should stop contributing to society. We can always find something meaningful to do, something passionate that you want to do like tutor children, volunteer, work for the community, etc.” he added.
The activity was participated by around 700 seniors aged 60 to more than 85 years old. Among the free health care services provided were pneumococcal immunization, preventive dentistry, blood testing (glucose, uric acid (UA), cholesterol), general health care assessment and provision of vitamin supplements and maintenance medicines.
Seniors were also introduced to various traditional complementary and alternative modalities to monitor and assess their over-all health, such as the Live Blood Analysis (LBA), Disease Prevention Analyzer (DPA), Hypotential Therapy and Electric Acupuncture machines which was employed in partnership with AHON (Association of Health Oriented Neighbors).
Janairo encouraged seniors to stay active. “Do anything to keep fit, something you enjoy that maintains strength, balance and flexibility and promotes cardiovascular health. We need physical activity to help us stay healthy to prevent illness. Eat well, sleep more, reduce stress and best of all, look and feel better.”
According to the 2015 National Statistics Office (NSO) census, there are a total of 2,544 senior citizen of Lumban, Laguna with 1,634 seniors aged 60-69 years old; 666 from 70-79 years old; and 244 from 80 years and above. The total population is 30,652.
