DOH-CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) yesterday conducted the First Barangay Health Workers (BHW) Convention, which was attended by 530 participants from the five provinces of the region held at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City on October 11, 2018 with the theme “Makabagong Barangay Health Worker Para sa Modernong Panahon”.
 
 
“Health care delivery in the community has evolved and continuous to advance with the help of modern technology which increases the demand for development opportunities for our BHWs. That is why the regional office continuous to implement strategies towards development of skills and competencies of our health workers,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated during the opening program.
 
“These programs will be initiated towards the fulfillment of the changing needs of the people of the community,” he emphasized.
 
Based on the BHW list of June 15, 2018, 22,124 registered BHWs with 6,817 have yet to undergo the Basic Training Course.
 
The convention aims to assemble the BHWs from the municipalities of CaLaBaRZon to participate in the discussion of various aspects that come with their vital role in the health care delivery system including innovations, strategies and other updates necessary in rendering health care services to the community.
 
According to Janairo, the convention will provide a venue to facilitate the promotion of the enhanced roles of the BHWs especially in the Service Delivery Network as one of the Strategic Focus of theFOURmula One Plus for Health in line with the Universal Health Coverage.
 
“We will also introduce the enhanced Basic Course Training for Barangay Health Workers which is the result of the integration of revolutionary considerations into the existing policies, guidelines and law for the Barangay Health Workers Program”.
 
 
“The roles of BHWs, especially in the Service Delivery Network, have remained significant in the health care system. It is very important that benefits, incentives and other support from the government be afforded to them. They are the real living heroes who continuous to voluntarily dedicate their lives in providing primary health care in their community,” he emphasized.
 
Various incentives wete given such as 12 bicycles and 5 digital weighing scales per BHW Provincial Federation, groceries, health kits, and financial awards were given as raffle prizes to winning participants. 
 
Participants of the convention included BHWs and Provincial Federation Officers of CaLaBaRZon.
